FEBRUARY: HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS

Invitation Tips

There is something awesome about looking forward to a great party. For that reason paired with the fact that everyone is busy busy busy and overbooked, invites should be sent well in advance. I understand the convenience of inviting friends and family to gatherings via Facebook, but like so many, I love getting mail. I miss getting a beautifully designed invites with a thoughtful note. I just recently got an invite in the mail for a gathering that wasn't a wedding and I was so excited!

The role of the invite is to communicate all the details:

1. The reason for the party: Be specific!

2. The date and time

3. The Location: Of course, the address is important, but if your guests have never been to your home or the venue, be sure to add a map and/or directions.

4. RSVP: Include a phone number or an email address for RSVP's. If you don't hear from someone, follow up with a phone call.

5. Any other details: If it is a surprise party, make sure to say so. Also, if it is for a baby or bridal shower, include the registry information.

HOLY SMOKES, IT'S 2015!

2014 was a great year. We met so many wonderful people, who allowed us to be apart of their celebrations and had the opportunity to work with incredible florists, photographers and artists that we have looked up to for years. We transformed backyards, warehouses, and barns into champagne poppin' love parties where people had to be forced to stop dancing (you can't get a better party than that). Although 2014 was a great year, we faced many challenges, learned difficult lessons and let's just say that our problem solving pencils have been sharpened.

A big thank you goes out to our incredible partners, Kyle and Stephen, and to all of our wonderful friends who support us and our small party planning business. Your love, kindness and constant good vibes make following our big dreams easy and damn right fun. We love you.

Now, on to 2015! Even more events and more big plans on our sunny horizon. We will keep in touch with you more on this blog and share more about our planning progress as the year unfolds.

We wish you all the best in 2015! May your year be filled with laughter, celebrations, and a shit ton of confetti. Seriously, like, a lot of it.

MEET ADRIENNE

WE HAVE A NEW ADDITION TO OUR TEAM AND WE ARE THRILLED TO SHOW HER OFF!

Yo! Adrienne!

Yo! Adrienne!

Adrienne: Yaaaay! So excited to be working with Marti and Lindsay. They're dabomb.com and I've been learning so much this summer and enjoying the experience so much :) Lindsay and Marti are so incredibly warm and open! It's great to be on the team.

WHAT IS ON YOUR PLAYLIST THIS SUMMER?

Ahhh I adore Lord Huron so they're getting a ton of play right now. I've also discovered the band Fickle Friends that I quite enjoy. Recently I've hit a latin music kick so I've been listening to a lot of Prince Royce, Romeo Santos, etc. Magic Man's EP is also really great and I rediscovered the classic "Tambourine" by Eve. My friend Katherine recently sent me a playlist I adore. Some standouts were "High (Oliver Nelson Remix)" by Tove Lo, "Les Voiles" by Poom, and "En el muelle de San Blas" by Maná. Forever favorites in my life are Fleetwood Mac and "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL DAY IN COLUMBUS.

My ideal day in Columbus would include brunch at Katalina's or Le Chatelain and then walk around the Short North area with friends. Then I would go and have tea and tasty treats at Pistacia Vera and go to dinner with my family at Fortune, a restaurant whose food is much better than its decor. If my stomach is up for it, I'll go to Jeni's and enjoy a trio of ice cream. Usually I get Pear, Blueberry Lemon, and whatever flavor I'm feeling at the moment. It would end with a leisurely walk around Upper Arlington late at night when no one else is around, or a night time drive with no real destination. I just like the chance to chill and jam and sing poorly in the comfort of my car. Haha. Then I'd come home, chill out with the fam if they're still up and maybe watch a movie or netflix before going to bed.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE?

- SWEET TREAT

I'm not really a sweets person to be honest, but I have a soft spot for frozen treats. Jeni's Riesling Poached Pear sorbet is literally like my crack and there's a Froyo place in Dublin called Yaourt that has a good original tart. I've also been craving the Bingsoo (shaved ice) from Tea Zone recently. Also basically everything at Pistacia Vera.

- ADULT BEVERAGE

I don't know if I have a favorite (is that lame? Haha) I do enjoy wine nights, though.

- RESTAURANT

I'm a total foodie so this is a tough one. Yakitori Totto in New York is fantastic, though, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Japanese food and happens to be in the area.

- MOVIE

I watch so many movies, it's really hard to pick a favorite (I'm bad at picking favorites, clearly). I love all Studio Ghibli movies, though my favorite might have to be Princess Mononoke. I also love The Diving Bell and the Butterfly directed by Julian Schnabel, or Hero by Zhang Yimou. I will always love the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Peter Jackson (and may or may not have had the biggest crush on Orlando Bloom/Legolas growing up). I'm also a huge horror movie fan and just recently watched the original Thai version of Shutter which was pretty good. If you ever have any scary movie recommendations, hit me up!

- SEASON

Fall. Hands down.

- VACATION SPOT

Ideally I would love to travel around Europe or Japan/China. My passport hasn't seen too much action (though I hope that will change soon) but of the places I've been to so far, my favorite places have been Los Angeles (so much good food!) and Taiwan (another food paradise!!).

- SHOP TO SPEND MOOLAH

I stimulate the economy more than I should. I don't know if I have a favorite place to shop specifically, but in general I like buying things cards and stationary so places like Paper Source/On Paper/etc. always manage to take all my money. And food places in general (cute specialty food stores are the devil!!!!) I like food a lot in case you couldn't tell xD

IF YOU COULD THROW A PARTY AND ANYONE COULD ATTEND, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE?

I'd invite all my friends and family, obviously. As for additional characters, I'd like to invite the Dalai Lama, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Leighton Meester, Guillermo Ochoa and the rest of the Mexican World Cup Team, Anita Lo, Hayao Miyazaki, Rihanna, Beyonce, a few of my professors from school, and John Steinbeck. Oh and Richard Armitage. Hopefully they'd all get along.

MARCH: WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON

Stevie and Jon will be married this fall at Via Vecchia Winery in the Brewery District in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. They came to us with a simple and classic design approach with inspiration from Jon's Grandfather's wedding attire. We can't wait to make this day come to life.

Highlights:

- Tons and tons of lighting; globe lights and candles galore!

- Personal touches: 'Get to know the bride and groom' cards, a wishing tree and family wedding photos in vintage photo frames.

- Cookie favor table: The bride will hold a party with close friends to bake family cookie recipes to be served at the end of the night as favors. Yum!
